The story of a company,
the tale of a family

We have been distilling grappa for generations

OUR HISTORY

We have been distilling grappa since the first half of the 19th century

The Francoli family’s tradition in grappa production dates back to the early 1800s, with documented records from 1875.

Our story begins in Campodolcino, in Valchiavenna, a village of  “Grapat” (grappa makers), where the art of distillation developed thanks to a few tenacious pioneers who managed to extract grappa from grape pomace brought up from the valley. Among these stood out a modest timber merchant, Guglielmo Francoli, who, accustomed to descending to the valley with his cartload of wood, would return uphill in the autumn with the fragrant pomace of Chiavennasca grapes, from which he succeeded in obtaining a few drops of grappa.
Since then, several generations have passed down this craft, and Guglielmo Francoli’s descendants have carried that same distilling passion to different parts of the world.

FRANCOLI’S
Family

Among them was Luigi Francoli, who, in the 1950s in Ghemme, together with his four brothers, laid the foundations of the current company, which has now been taken up by the fifth generation.

The knowledge of generations, the taste of today

Lives devoted to the production of grappa – lives deeply and inseparably connected to the land and its people – have given rise to a unique company, devoted to respecting the environment and the well-being of individuals. These values are achieved through an unique heritage of knowledge and the awareness of a duty to pass it on to others.
